Alabama desperately needs more midwives. Since 2019, the number of completed homebirths attended by Licensed Midwives have nearly tripled, yet the number of midwives serving families desiring midwifery services has only increased by about 50%. I feel it is my duty and honor to help midwifery students obtain the clinical experience they need to become midwives.

Midwives are trained through the apprenticeship model which requires a minimum of 2,000 hours of hands on experience. Students also complete an academic program, but the real art and skills of midwifery are learned through the practice of midwifery. Apprentices assist at many prenatal/postpartum visits and at all births.

All midwives and assistants maintain certifications in adult and neonatal resuscitation. Midwife Rebekah is a NARM registered preceptor working to train more midwives. Over the course of your care you will have opportunities to meet the apprentices who will be involved in your care. Clients using my services are invited to partner with me in furthering the apprentices’ education and experience. We will always ask you permission before a student performs any care for you. In addition we welcome your feedback and suggestions on how students can learn and improve their skills and communication. Your kindness to invest in students as they progress on their midwifery journey is greatly appreciated.

Tracie Stone - Senior Apprentice

Tracie began her apprenticeship with Midwife Rebekah in the spring of 2019. As an IT professional for the last 20 years, she is pursuing her life’s desire to work with women. In addition to midwifery, she has a passion for expounding on the principles of the Bible and enjoys teaching in a practical, unorthodox and easy to understand manner. Blessed by a blended family, Tracie is married to Jacky and together they are the parents of four young adults and two grandchildren. Her motto is “May everything I do be by His grace and for His glory”. After retirement from the IT industry, Tracie desires to concentrate solely on educating women in a community setting. In her spare time, Tracie enjoys hiking with her family, working in her garden and decorating events with her mother.

Tracie is a wonderful part of the Midwife Rebekah team. She recently passed the NARM exam to become a Certified Professional Midwife. She will continue to assist Midwife Rebekah with births in north and central Alabama.

Kaelie Harris - Apprentice

Kaelie began her work as a student midwife in January of 2023. With six years of experience in the birth community in north Alabama, she has had the privilege of supporting families as a doula, placenta encapsulator, and prenatal yoga instructor.

Her passion for midwifery emerged when she discovered her love for home birth. Witnessing the beauty and empowerment that can arise from this intimate setting inspired her to pursue a career as a midwife. She believes in the power of natural, holistic care and the importance of honoring each individual's choices and preferences.

In addition to her professional pursuits, she is a proud mother of two incredible children, aged 8 and 6.

While learning foundational skills, Kaelie is assisting Midwife Rebekah at births in central and north Alabama.
