Alabama desperately needs more midwives. Since 2019, the number of completed homebirths attended by Licensed Midwives have nearly tripled, yet the number of midwives serving families desiring midwifery services has only increased by about 50%. I feel it is my duty and honor to help midwifery students obtain the clinical experience they need to become midwives.
Midwives are trained through the apprenticeship model which requires a minimum of 2,000 hours of hands on experience. Students also complete an academic program, but the real art and skills of midwifery are learned through the practice of midwifery. Apprentices assist at many prenatal/postpartum visits and at all births.
All midwives and assistants maintain certifications in adult and neonatal resuscitation. Midwife Rebekah is a NARM registered preceptor working to train more midwives. Over the course of your care you will have opportunities to meet the apprentices who will be involved in your care. Clients using my services are invited to partner with me in furthering the apprentices’ education and experience. We will always ask you permission before a student performs any care for you. In addition we welcome your feedback and suggestions on how students can learn and improve their skills and communication. Your kindness to invest in students as they progress on their midwifery journey is greatly appreciated.

Faith Blanshan - Apprentice
Faith began working with Midwife Rebekah as a student midwife in May 2024. While learning foundational skills, Faith is assisting Midwife Rebekah at births in north Alabama.
I have been a doula since 2022 when the Lord led me to birth work. From the first birth I attended, I knew this field is where I wanted to work. Since then I have attended over 20 births and have had the honor of serving those families as they welcomed their newest member to the world.
Through being a doula I was introduced to the idea of being a midwife. After much prayer, I enrolled in Mercy In Action College of Midwifery. I am in my second year of school and will graduate in 2027 as a midwife.
Some of my other hobbies include:
- Volunteering as an EMT as my local fire department
- Hiking (specifically hikes with waterfalls)
- Reading and listening to audiobooks
- Baking
Various apprentices
Midwife Rebekah may have additional apprentices working with her for short periods.
